Intro
1974 BMW E3 Bavaria in factory original Garnet Red over black leatherette interior with the 3.0-liter (M30) inline-six engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. It is the last model year of the Bavaria with a total production volume of only 930 made. The seller purchased the car in 2024 as a neglected non-driver and completed extensive mechanical restoration. It has 54k original miles and seller states the odometer has not turned over. It has a clear title and is in New York.
Exterior
This Bavaria still has the original factory Garnet red paint with a nice patina, chrome trim, and front fog lights. It has independent rear suspension with McPherson struts in front. It has 14-inch steel wheels and chrome hubcaps wrapped in General Altimax RT 195/70R 14 tires. Seller notes the paint is faded with evidence of the clear coat peeling and corrosion in areas.
Interior
The interior is upholstered in black leatherette with dark wood trim on the dash and chrome trim on the doors. The seller notes the headliner is loose as well as the trunk lid liner and both need to be reset. The AC is not working and there is a crack in the dash as shown in the photos. All gauges, clock and radio are functional. Aftermarket speakers were installed in the front and rear.
Mechanicals
The 1974 BMW Bavaria is powered by a 3.0-liter M30 inline-six engine equipped with twin Zenith carburetors, producing approximately 170 horsepower and 185–200 lb-ft of torque. The seller installed new dual Weber carbs, gas tank and sending unit, fuel lines, and new electrical fuel pump. Partial service records are included in the sale.
Imperfections
Headliner and trunk lid liner need to be reset
Signs of clear coat peeling
Exterior corrosion
AC not working
Crack in dash
Seller Comments
Very rare original un-molested last year model purchased by me in 2024 as neglected non-driver needing mechanical rescue work. A lot has been done mechanically to bring to nice driver quality levels. It can be driven as is and continue to mechanically fix minor aspects. The ideal new owner has older BMW mechanical know how or knows a good local mechanic knowledgeable of these rare cars.
